Sandy seabed

Sandy seabed

Sandy seabed is a type of soft bottom that is popular with bathers, but it also has an impressive biodiversity. Here you'll find polychaetes, scallops, razor clams, starfish, crabs and shrimps. The sandy seabed is also popular with flatfish, which show an extreme degree of adaptation to this environment. They have a compressed and twisted body shape, the color and pattern of the fish resemble the sand and many species thrive when they can bury themselves in the sand. Here they can disappear completely and achieve almost perfect camouflage. It makes sense both to avoid being eaten and to get dinner.
